Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) is a process of identifying, quantifying and evaluating the potential effects of development-related or other proposed actions on habitats, species and ecosystems.
An Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) details the methodology and results of ecology surveys undertaken at the site as well as a detailed impact assessment of a development on ecological features and recommendations to avoid, protect, minimise and enhance the biodiversity of the site, in line with the mitigation hierarchy.
This requires the provision of development proposals, including plans and specifications, and for all ecology surveys and assessments to be complete. An EcIA cannot make recommendations for further surveys (excluding pre-commencement surveys such as nesting bird checks).
